The secret to an enjoyable evacuation is a good attitude and sense of adventure. It only takes a decision. I know people who would have stressed and fumed (you probably saw some yourself)throughout the whole ordeal. I would have enjoyed the opportunity to see interesting new vistas between point A and point B.

Growing up as I did in Florida, I knew many people who didn't take hurricane warnings and evacuation "requests" seriously. Often things turned out to be not so bad. And yes, that lulls folks into a false sense of security. Then The Big one comes along, and all they have to worry about is paying for their funeral. Or something.

Despite the short trip and having to deal with the evacuation, I'm glad that you ended up having a good time and got out of there safe and sound.

"Yes, I'd like a category 2 hurricane, two mimosas, and a really hunky bellhop. Thanks."
